Paps

I've always wondered what you do
When you leave the room so I can change
Into that thin blue gown in preparation
For the uncomfortable but necessary
Annual check-up.

I feel as though you must have some
Very important things to do
Like reading journal articles or
Phoning other doctors for advice.

But you're probably just standing
At the reception desk
Chatting about your weekend
And flipping thorough a random
Magazine from the waiting room.

Or maybe you're starting into space
Thinking about your next vacation.

Cold hard plastic between thighs.

I'm glad it's only once a year.
